My Syle, Your Style and Our Style

My Style:

  • We might have been brought into the social media team because of our own creativity.

  • You just love to serve and it is now part of your job to post. See a need fill a need.

  • Do you love creating or do you like using what is given instead?

  • When do you find yourself creating your own designs?

  • How can your own personal style get help or hinder “our” social media?

Your Style: (Campus or Ministry specific) What are some differences we can see in our own campuses?

  • Could potentially lean towards a more “personalized” or unique design aesthetic for social media content. Reaching people where they are at. Example: beach vibe vs. small town rural.

  • Could feature a mixture of visuals, including user-generated content and provided graphics to engage followers. Example: taking photos and videos at an event on your own but using the brand kit colors, fonts, overlays, and logos provided for that event from Graphics.

Our Style: (Global)

  • Strives to maintain a cohesive look and feel across all campus social media to reinforce brand recognition of campaigns.

  • Using Canva to help “Your Campus Style” fit in with Our Global Style Campaigns with our new Brand Kits.

Rule of 3rds

Know the rules before you break the rules. Remember it is called a rule not the law of 3rds.

It's a composition tool to help where your point of interest sits.

Easiest way to think of the rule of 3rds is with a tool like this…#.

Normally this tool is see in cameras. You can turn on your 3rds grid on in your iPhone by going to settings/camera/under composition click the switch for grid. If your new to “composition” and like the help, this is a great feature but some might find it distracting.

  • Our eyes are drawn to the points were the lines intersect.

  • They give balance and more context.

  • Examples from PV then look at https://www.instagram.com/northcoastchurch_vista/ to find some examples.

  • Use it, Experiment with it, then think of how you might break it. Once you see it you almost can’t un-see it. Keep this in mind as we move forward with the rest of this training.

Content and Hierarchy (As simple as 1, 2, 3)

Where do your eyes go first second and third. What is the most important? Second importance then third?

Campaigns: Things we need to think about in our posts might be… Logos / Overlays / photos and their content.

In what order do you think using these elements will help your content and the hierarchy? There are no wrong answers. Just keep the simple 1,2,3 in mind as a guide and let it walk you through the post.

An example of this rule with just a photo might be when the photo tells a story in itself and how the rule of 3rds is used making your eyes move around the image.

Examples: go to https://www.instagram.com/northcoastchurch

  • Baby Bottles and Beyond - 1. logo branding with a touch of interest of what is behind. 2. Clear photo that tells the story 3. text in post - even the post might have a 1, 2, and 3 in how you say things in the post. Also in this post could there be a hierarchy for those who do not scroll to the next image?

  • New Sermon Series - 1. image of the series 2. where it is located and the story behind it that our minds come up with. 3. text in the post.

  • Videos - 1. visual you start with 2. content and what it is saying 3. post you wright up to go with it.

Focus points

Could be in the copy or in your images and graphics. As we have walked through some of the details in the rule of 3rds and our content we come up with those focus points.

What are some focus points? How have you used them? Talk about SME and how they use different focus points.

  • Event branding

  • excitement in the image

  • colors that stand out

  • where the rule of 3rds draws your eyes

Consistency

Questions to ask yourself before posting or in the process of your design process to stay consistent. (Using SME also for an example)

  • How many of a certain person (pastors or people up front)?

  • How many men vs women?

  • Do we show a good amount diversity?

  • Does it look as fun or cool as we actually are?

  • Am I putting our best foot forward?

  • Campaigns - We all do the same across the board even if we do not like it. (flexibility built in at times)

  • Do your posts seem to have a pattern?
